Rewatching this as an adult with several years of vocal lessons, I'm more convinced than ever this show did her so dirty. Her ability to go from this gravely tone to such a clear belt, to flip between registers so seemingly effortlessly speaks to a remarkable level of control over her vocals and she absolutely deserved more. I think now that her and James would've been a way more interesting finale than Scotty and Lauren were.
